Emil Josef Diemer
1908-1990
A Life Devoted to Chess
by
Alan Dommett

“Once you have been bitten by the chess bug there is no cure”

Open up a new world of chess, and don’t look back from your opening move….

For chess players wishing to embrace a new attacking approach to the game, this book provides the definitive analysis of Emil Josef Diemer’s match-winning tactics.

Diemer’s philosophy of hunting down the king at the expense of a gambit pawn might be too adventurous for some, but no one can deny the exciting chess that results! The moves of Diemer’s 126 best games are detailed here, illustrating the style and the belief behind the Blackmar-Diemer gambit and others.

"With his Blackmar-Diemer Gambit, Emil Josef Diemer built his own monument in his own lifetime."
Manfred Mädler, Stern

Alan Dommett was brought up in Chichester. He began his addiction for chess whilst still at Chichester High School for Boys when he played for the Sussex County team. He studied law at Guildford and was able to return to competitive chess when he moved to Worthing and became involved in coaching at Lancing College. On moving to Bournemouth he joined a flourishing club. He now writes a weekly chess column in The Daily Echo and edits the chess magazine Newsknight.
